Antsirabe

It happens quite often that one has to stopover at Antsirabe – the town “with a lot of salt” – if travelling southern, south-eastern or western Madagascar. Just 150 kilometres south of Antananarivo in the central highland, Antsirabe is not only statistically the coldest place on the island, but also an industrial and agricultural centre because of fertile soil of volcanic origin as well as a main traffic hub because of Route Nationale 7 to the south and the road to Miandrivazo (statistically the hottest place in Madagascar, only 250 kilometres away!!!) and on to Morondava at the west coast.

Wer Süden, Südosten und den Westen Madagaskars bereisen möchte, wird zwangsläufig ziemlich oft in Antsirabe, der Stadt, „wo es viel Salz gibt“, vorbeischauen. Knapp 150 Kilometer südlich von Antananarivo im zentralen Hochland gelegen, ist Antsirabe nicht nur der statistisch kälteste Ort auf der Insel, sondern aufgrund der fruchtbaren Böden vulkanischen Ursprungs auch ein industrielles und landwirtschaftliches Zentrum und aufgrund der Route Nationale 7 Richtung Süden sowie der Straße nach Miandrivazo (dem statistisch heißesten Ort der Insel, nur etwa 250 Kilometer entfernt!!!) und weiter gen Morondava an der Westküste ein Verkehrsknotenpunkt.
